Description

- Your concern for the protection
and preservation of the natural environment continues to be important
to us. That's why Knight Chemicals LLC introduced the environmentally
innovative Organiclear TM-5 premium wood coating system.
It beautifies and protects new log homes for years of maintenance-free,
peaceful living. The unique TM-5 formula is aqueous (water) based
and specially formulated for fresh cut unseasoned new wood. Organiclear
TM-5 deeply permeates into the wood fibers and pores by combining
with the natural moisture found in wood and using it as the conduit
for deep penetration. Organiclear TM-5 actually becomes
part of the wood itself! In addition, exceptional weatherproofing
protection is provided by Organiclear's MOISTURE GUARD
barrier that repels rain and snow with longer-lasting oils, resins
and waxes, creating a network of protected wood fibers deep in
the wood itself. And that's not all! TM-5 performance effectively
shields against ultraviolet (UV) discoloration and wind erosion.
The penetration solution will prevent wood from cracking or peeling.
Wood is allowed to "breathe" so that any excess moisture
in the wood can escape naturally. For immediate, cost-effective
protection of fresh lumber, logs and timber as well as dry wood,
trust the TM-Series aqueous-based treatment from the Organiclear
family of premium wood coatings and finishes.

- Organiclear TM-5 ready-to-use
wood coating is ideal for new log homes and all fresh wood, i.e.
log walls, dormers, porches, decks, railings, gable ends, exterior
trim, soffits, windows and doors, etc. It also produces premier
results on wood siding , shakes and shingles, fences, outdoor
furniture and more.
-
- Color Range:
- Available in a variety of highly
durable pre-mixed semi-transparent stains from natural clear
and light brown/honey to dark browns and weathered grays. See our color chart.
-
- Note To Log Home Builders:
- To protect new
logs from preweathering during storage and construction, we recommend
that Organiclear TM-5
be applied QUICKLY (within two weeks of weather exposure) after
delivery. All wood surfaces should be treated to retard the harmful
effects of weathering.

- Application
Guidelines
-
- Directions Before Use:
- TM-5 Series Wood Coatings are
for exterior use only and should not be diluted. For best results,
treat new wood QUICKLY (within two weeks of weather exposure)
to avoid preweathering damage to wood surface. Prior to use,
mix well with a paint stick. Routinely stir during application.
-
- Wear Proper Clothes:
- To protect against skin irritation,
you or your wood treatment contractor should always wear a long-sleeved
shirt, long pants and goggles. Also use an OSHA approved mask
to protect against inhalation of vapors. For your information
and safety, please take the time to read the product label carefully
before use. Before applying stain to the entire home, test on
a sample piece of log from your home to verify the color and
look you want.
-
- Weather Check:
- Apply between the temperatures
of 50° and 90°F. Do not apply when hot, wet or windy
weather conditions are expected within 36 hours. Always wait
for rain or dew to dry before application.
-
- Coats:
- One coat is sufficient to repel
water on most wood surfaces. However, two or three coats can
be applied if longer protection from ultraviolet fading is desired,
depending on weather exposure.
-
- Coverage:
- Depending upon the method of
application and the porosity, texture and dryness of the wood,
allow 200 - 400 square feet per gallon.
-
- Cleaning Surfaces:
- Wood should be clean and dry,
unpainted and free of all loose debris including loose bark,
sawdust, mud, etc. Upward-facing checks and splits in the wood
surface should be filled with an exterior wood filler. Any unwanted
stains, mildew, fungi or preweathering should be cleaned first
with a power washer using one quart household bleach, one gallon
of water and one pound of Tri-Sodium Phosphate (available at
your local hardware store) or non-ammoniated detergent. Rinse
off completely and allow to dry.

-
- What
to do before applying a sealer or stain to a new deck or wood
-
- Although a brand new deck or
wood may look clean, it has dirt, mildew, waxy residues and mill
glaze.
-
- Mill glaze is produced by high
speed planes in modern lumber mills. Often the high speed planes
not only plane the wood, but they crush the exterior wood fiber
to create a very shiny lumber surface. The crushed fibers do
not let stain and seal coatings absorb properly, causing finish
failure.
-
- Apply a deck preparation mill
glaze remover product. These products are designed to clean the
deck, lower the pH, relieve the surface tension and help the
wood to absorb the sealer or stain evenly. This assures maximum
stain absorption, prevents flaking or scaling of the coating
and leads to a longer lasting job without a splotchy look.
-
-
- Method of Application:
- Apply the TM-5 Wood Coating
liberally to the point of saturation. The preferred methods of
application are:
- a quality paint brush,
- an airless sprayer (rentable)
- or a pump-type garden sprayer.
- Saturate any checks or splits.
All exposed log or timber ends and corners need special care
and should be coated several times until all wood pores are saturated.
-
- Drying Time:
- Allow 4 - 8 hours for drying,
depending upon temperature and humidity conditions in your area.
Longer drying time (up to 24 hours) may be required on humid
or cold days.
-
- Clean-up:
- For fast clean-up, rinse brushes
and equipment with soap and water. Wash skin thoroughly after
handling the material.
-
- Storage:
- Cover the product when not in
use. Keep in tightly-sealed containers out of reach of children.
-
- Care and Maintenance:
- Wood surfaces that have been
properly treated according to the application guidlines may need
to be retreated every 3 - 4 years or as needed, depending on
weather exposure. Some wood surfaces may require earlier treatment.
A close inspection of treated surfaces should be done annually.
